MOSTAR, May 8 (Hina) - High Representative to Bosnia-Herzegovina Wolfgang Petritsch today refused to confirm an electoral candidate of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Josip Merdzo, for premier of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton.
As a result, Croat members of the Canton Assembly have refused to participate in the Assembly's work. Merdzo was cantonal premier during his former mandate. Today he told the canton Assembly in Mostar Petritsch did not like the fact that he called on public employees to, on a voluntary basis, decide whether they want to give up three percent of their salaries to help families of people currently in custody at the international war crimes tribunal in The Hague. Merdzo stressed he never asserted any pressure on the workers.(hina) lml sb
