The defence continues to state that the acts attributed to the indictees do not constitute war crimes as there was no organised military activity in the Gospic area, central Croatia, in 1991, said attorney Milenko Skrlec. He added the defence maintained there had been no conflict between the Croatian armed forces and paramilitary units of Croatian Serbs, but that the local population had engaged in an unorganised defence of Croatia from the aggressive JNA, the ex-Yugoslavia's federal army.
