ZAGREB, March 30 (Hina) - Commenting on polemics about who has the right to mark the tenth anniversary of the "Plitvice '91" police liberation operation, Croatian President Stipe Mesic on Friday said he was going to attend the
celebration which has been organised by the operation's committee. "I object to all those who are privatising any historic event, including this one. Everybody could have joined in their own way into the defence of Croatia, and I believe there is no sense in anonymous persons criticising those who have contributed to freedom, and complaining that they have not contributed enough. right to mark the tenth anniversary of the "Plitvice '91" police
liberation operation, Croatian President Stipe Mesic on Friday

"I object to all those who are privatising any historic event,
including this one. Everybody could have joined in their own way
into the defence of Croatia, and I believe there is no sense in
anonymous persons criticising those who have contributed to
freedom, and complaining that they have not contributed enough.
Generals Petar Stipetic, Tus and Stimac have all been connected to
Josip Boljkovac and it is through them that we knew what the
Yugoslav Peoples' Army (JNA) was up to. But they also did everything
to train the Croatian army. In other words, they were in danger when
they worked on defending Croatia when those who are now complaining
against them didn't know they even existed," Mesic told reporters.
The "Uzdanica '90" veterans' association organised their own
marking of the tenth anniversary of the Plitvice '90 operation in
protest for the fact that the organisation committee for marking
this anniversary, which was established by the late President
Tudjman, also consisted of some former JNA generals, including the
current Croatian Armed Forces Chief-of-Staff Petar Stipetic.
