This sector is the only branch to have seen a dramatic decline compared to the manufacturing industry and trade. House-building has substantially fell. Until 1990 Croatia had 10,000 flats built yearly, and since then there have been merely 1,000 flats built per annum. Cacic informed the firms' leaders of plans for the reconstruction of war-destroyed houses, and told them that this year some 7,000 houses should be renovated for returnees. He added that under the programme for the construction of flats affordable for poorer citizens, 700 to 800 flats should be built this year. (hina) sb ms
