ZAGREB, March 14 (Hina) - Croatia's Janica Kostelic, the recent winner of the women's Alpine skiing World Cup overall title, had her left knee successfully operated in the Bruderhiolz hospital in Basel, Switzerland on Wednesday.
Kostelic should return to Croatia on Saturday, where she is to undergo a three-week rehabilitation period. The surgery removed four millimetres of the lateral part of the meniscus and corrected the bruised medial meniscus. All ligaments are in order. The surgery was performed by Dr Heinz Widmer. The injury she was withstanding for some time worsened immediately before the finals of last weekend's World Cup in Aare, Sweden. After doctors established the injury would not endanger Kostelic's career, it was decided a surgery would be performed after the cup.(hina) ha
