ZAGREB, Jan 24 (Hina) - Five farmers' associations and two unions of workers in Kutina's chemical industry Petrokemija rallied in front of the parliament building in downtown Zagreb at 9 a.m. on Wednesday to peacefully protest against
the dire situation in agriculture and a cut in gas supply to Petrokemija's artificial fertiliser factory. According to estimates, about 200 people have rallied in front of the building. Shortly after nine, the associations' and unions' leaders were received by parliamentary speaker Zlatko Tomcic. Farmers demand that the government adopt a four million kuna budget for the Agriculture and Forestry Ministry due to Croatia's admission into the World Trade Organisation. Protesting against a discontinuation of gas supply to Kutina's
natural fertiliser factory, representatives of state oil company
INA demand immediate gas supply for the manufacturing of some
400,000 tonnes of artificial fertiliser necessary for the spring
sowing.
The protesters demand that members of parliament hold an urgent
debate on the demands of the farmers' associations and
Petrokemija's employees.
