Catholic Theological School, was opened by the Archbishop of Zagreb, Msgr Josip Bozanic, who said the topic was significant because it "points to the fear of facing the future." Participants in a debate agreed contemporary society was in the grip of an all-round crisis of values, and hoped the lectures and talks held during the theological-pastoral week would shed light on "a series of topics so much needed by contemporary Croatian society, which cries out for dialogue in all areas of importance in both the religious and social life."
