TOMCIC PROPOSES TO SLOVENIA RECIPROCAL SOLUTION FOR MINORITIES

LJUBLJANA, Jan 18 (Hina) - During Thursday's visit to Ljubljana, Croatian parliament speaker Zlatko Tomcic proposed to Slovene counterpart Borut Pahor the reciprocal solving of minority rights of Slovenians in Croatia and Croats in Slovenia. Asked about this initiative, Tomcic said after the talks with Pahor that it was his personal proposal as a part of a project aimed at improving overall relations between the two countries, pointing to a constitutional law on human rights and rights of national minorities adopted last year. "This constitutional norm includes 24 national minorities which have minority rights, including the Slovenian. In that sense we expect reciprocity, namely that the issue of minority rights be solved in both countries in the same way", Tomcic said. Pahor said that Slovene parliamentary bodies would discuss the motion. According to the last census conducted in 1991, 54,000 Croa
