OSIJEK, Dec 27 (Hina) - The Osijek Centre for Peace, Non-Violence
and Human Rights on Friday condemned statements by Croatian
Democratic Union (HDZ) officials from Osijek County, who compared
county prefect Ladislav Bognar with the late Romanian dictator
Nicolai Ceausescu. #L#
Prefect Bognar, whom deputies in the county assembly recently gave
of vote of no confidence at the proposal of HDZ deputies, was on
several occasions dubbed "Ceausescu from Osijek-Baranja County" by
HDZ officials, who demanded that he resign.
The Centre said in a statement the comparison with the killed
Romanian dictator "was far from good taste and basic political
fairness, and is not far from the punishable act of instigation to
violence".
The Centre wonders why the HDZ has not reacted to what it described
as utterly undemocratic behaviour of its officials in Osijek,
stating that such behaviour is part of "efforts aimed at thwarting
attempts to shed light on the situation in companies operating in
the county".
The HDZ bench at the Osijek County Assembly on December 20 initiated
a vote of no confidence in Bognar, claiming that he breached
assembly decisions regarding the operation and recapitalisation of
the Osijek Free Zone.
Of 51 deputies, 50 took part in the vote. Twenty-five deputies voted
for, while as many voted against the prefect.
