on Tuesday evening removed a Christmas tree set up in Zagreb's St. Mark's Square by laid-off policemen who have been protesting outside the government's building for some ten months. The vice president of the association of Croatian police war veterans, Zeljko Spolodor, told Hina that the intervention police claimed they had a warrant to remove the tree but did not show it. He said the protesters did not put up any resistance. "Such an act is not in line with the Christmas spirit and is a disgrace to the government," Spolodor said.
