THE HAGUE/ZAGREB, Dec 6 (Hina) - The key witness of the ICTY
Prosecution in the Croatian part of the trial of Slobodan
Milosevic, C-061, is former premier of the so-called Republika
Srpska Krajina Milan Babic. #L#
After testifying for ten days under maximum security measures,
including the protection of personal information, electronic voice
distortion, the protection of the image and numerous closed
sessions, witness C-061 requested on Friday to continue his
testimony under his name.
Spokeswoman for the Hague-based tribunal's Prosecution Florence
Hartmann told Hina in a telephone interview that there were several
reasons for such a request.
Media recently published data, revealing the identity of the
witness, including photographs.
Hartmann also said that Babic was exposed to threats and pressure.
Babic said that his wish was to reveal his identity which, as he
said, was his contribution to final reconciliation.
In an indictment which charges Milosevic with crimes committed
during the war in Croatia, Babic was named as one of the
participants of a joint criminal operation, which aimed at annexing
ethnically cleansed parts of Croatia to Serbia.
Babic is testifying in the presence of his attorney, because the
Prosecution has opened a possibility of raising an indictment
against him as well.
