ZAGREB, Dec 5 (Hina) - All Croatian parliamentary benches on
Thursday endorsed a bill of amendments to the Law on Civil Procedure
which they say will considerably contribute to making such
proceedings faster and more effective and improve the legal
protection of citizens. #L#
The benches of both the opposition and the ruling coalition parties
praised the government-sponsored bill, particularly the
provisions giving judges more leeway in penalising procedural
abuse, as well as those determining the responsibility of judges
and members of the jury during proceedings.
Owing to changes to 291 provisions of the current Law on Civil
Procedure, some benches proposed adopting a new law. They also
proposed stricter penalties for failure to appear in court and
setting exact deadlines for sentencing in some disputes.
Justice Minister Ingrid Anticevic-Marinovic said the unanimous
support to the government's bill was encouraging. She announced
that all proposals put forward in today's debate would be taken into
consideration.
