These are results of a pilot research programme "Tomas 2002"
(Tourism Activities of Citizens) which was conducted by the
Institute for Tourism and presented at the Croatian Chamber of
Commerce on Tuesday.
The research indicates that more than two thirds of overall travels
concerned one-day trips, while on third were trips of several days.
Of the total number of travels, the most are one-day private trips
(57 percent), and the least several-day business trips (six
percent).
One-day travels are mostly motivated by visits to family and
friends, shopping, vacations and fun. Citizens mostly travelled to
Hungary, Italy, Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Austria.
Trips of several days are mostly due to vacations, visiting friends
and family, and fun, with the primary destination being Italy,
followed by Bosnia, Germany and Slovenia. Of the overall number of
several-day trips from June through September, 21 percent
pertained to trips abroad.
As regards plans for the period from October until the end of
December, results have shown that 42 percent of Croatian citizens
were planning to leave on trips in this period, with 25 percent of
this number going abroad.
