for Environmental Protection in Central and East Europe and the

Djakovo a two-day workshop on public participation in decision-
making related to environmental matters. #L#
Participating in the workshop are representatives of local self-
government, non-government organisations for environmental
protection, and media representatives.
The purpose of the workshop is to promote the Convention on Access
to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access
to Justice in Environmental Matters - the so-called Aarhus
Convention.
The convention has been implemented in countries in the region
since 2000 and is based on the protection and renewal of the
environment in line with national legislation. The document has
been ratified by 22 countries so far and preparations for its
ratification in Croatia are underway.
The workshop is part of a Danish-Croatian project on assistance in
the implementation of the Aarhus Convention in Croatia, which is
financed by the Danish Agency for Environmental Protection and the
Regional Centre for Environmental Protection in Central and East
Europe.
