The Committee will forward the resolution to all parliamentary
benches for consideration. Only then will the document, whose
current version is not the final one, be forwarded into
parliamentary procedure, said Committee chairman Milan Kovac.
The resolution proposes that parliament appeal to the U.S. to act on
the Council of Europe's convention on the transfer of convicts and
grant Busic's transfer to Croatia to serve the remainder of his
sentence.
Busic was sentenced to 40 years in prison in the U.S. in 1976 after
hijacking a plane with a group of Croats to draw the attention of the
US and the world to the Croats' position in the ex-Yugoslav
federation.
The hijacking was also related to the death of a US police officer
who was killed while deactivating an explosive device which Busic
and his accomplices had planted in a New York railway station.
