SISAK, Oct 31 (Hina) - The branches of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) and the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) in the Gvozd municipality will organise the signing of a petition against Wednesday's decision of the Gvozd Municipal Council on changing the names of streets and the main square in Gvozd, as well as changing the name of Gvozd into Vrginmost, said the president of the HDZ/SDP bench at the Gvozd Municipal Council, Vlasta Baca. #L# She said that "Croats in Gvozd are embittered by the decision of the Social Democratic Party's (SDP) majority in the Municipal Council, because they believe that there was no valid reason or justification to change the names of streets and square". The only square in Gvozd, the Franjo Tudjman Square, was renamed into Freedom Square, the Croatian House into the House of Culture and Gvozd to Vrginmost, which was the town's name before it was liberated in the 1995 "Storm" military operation and before the establishment of Croatian authorities in this region, Baca told Hina. She stressed that the it was the unilateral decision of the SDP to rename other streets too. The Municipal Council on Wednesday made a unanimous decision to give away municipal land in the centre of Gvozd for the construction of a Catholic church, which was applauded by councillors of the HDZ and HSP.
