The Italian citizen, aged 40, has been remanded in custody for
illegal export.
Citing police sources, Slovene media have been reporting for
several weeks about confiscated birds on the same border crossing.
In all the cases, it were Italian citizens who had tried to smuggle
the birds.
It is suspected that the birds were shot in hunting grounds in
Croatia and Bosnia, and that the birds were protected species whose
meat was a speciality in Italy.
In the past two months, more than 4,000 killed birds, weighing about
200 kg have been found in Obrezje in Italian vehicles.
