SAB gathers 107 associations making up 45,000 members, and is in a
difficult financial position because it is not financed by the
government budget, but exclusively by membership fees, SAB
president Ivan Fumic said.
He said that the state had this year earmarked about EUR2.3 million
to the Croatian Homeland War Veterans' Ministry, intended for
financing Homeland War associations.
Fumic said the alliance was not against that. According to
resolutions of the World Veteran Federation, adopted by Croatia,
the veterans of all wars must be treated equally, which is not the
case in Croatia, he added.
He dismissed the idea of unifying all veterans' associations,
participants of the People's Liberation War in World War II,
members of the "Croatian Homeland Army 1941-1945, and members of
the Homeland War into one alliance.
SAB was not invited to join in, nor would its members do so, because
it does not wish to make compromises with troops which served the
occupier, and are today known as the Homeland Army.
