The opening ceremony was attended by more than 200 guests,
including Democrat Congressman Jim McDermott, the chairman of the
House of Representatives of the Washington State Parliament, Frank
Chopp, Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) president Nadan
Vidosevic, and Croatia's Ambassador to the USA, Ivan Grdesic.
Consul Brozovic was confident that the consulate would contribute
to the strengthening of cultural, economic and political ties
between the two countries.
Congressman McDermott believed that the USA and Croatia could
expand their economic cooperation and that Croatia could attract
companies like Microsft, Boeing and others that are based in
Seattle.
HGK president Vidosevic said representatives of Boeing wanted
their planes to be included in the Croatia Airlines fleet.
He added that Croatia had an excellent position in relation to the
European market, a very developed infrastructure and ports, and an
encouraging legal framework for potential investors.
The consulate in Seattle is the third Croatian honorary consulate
to be opened in the USA this year. The other two are in Pittsburgh
and New Orleans. Ambassador Grdesic said another honorary
consulate would be opened in Kansas City next year.
