"On behalf of the Republic of Croatia I most harshly condemn the
terrorist attacks on the Indonesian island of Bali in which almost
200 innocent people were killed," the president said and added that
the death of as many innocent people as possible "always was and
remains the only goal" of terrorism.
Considering that numerous foreign tourists were killed on Bali,
which the terrorists had certainly counted on, Mesic said this was
not an attack on Indonesia alone, but on all world countries.
Extending his deepest condolences to the families of the victims
and expressing solidarity with friendly Indonesia, the Croatian
president said the tragic events on Bali were new evidence of the
brutality and ruthlessness of international terrorism and the
danger it posed to all.
These events are a new encouragement to intensify the activities of
the world anti-terrorist coalition of which Croatia is an active
member, Mesic said in the statement. He added the fight against
terrorism should continue under the auspices of the United Nations,
not only through strikes against terrorists, but also through long-
term measures aimed at removing the atmosphere breeding
terrorism.
