The president of the FAI, Wolfgang Weinreich, pointed out Croatia's
great contribution to international air sports, particularly in
organising numerous competitions.
An envoy of the Croatian President, Brigadier General Josip Stimac,
said that this gathering was an indicator of the long aeroplane
tradition from the time of Faust Vrancic in the XVth century until
the innovations of Slavoljub Penkala at the beginning of the XXth
century.
A Faust Vrancic medal was presented at the ceremony to the World
Federation on behalf of the Croatian Aviation Alliance. Each year
the medal is awarded as recognition of innovations in parachuting
and is awarded to individuals and groups.
The FAI annual assembly will continue until Sunday, October 13, and
is being held in Dubrovnik for the second time.
