ZAGREB, Oct 9 (Hina) - The Croatian government's council for
cooperation with the UN war crimes tribunal at The Hague on
Wednesday formulated a draft initiative to have the Constitutional
Court assess if a Hague indictment against Gen. Janko Bobetko
complies with the Constitution. #L#
The draft will be considered by the government on Thursday, before
being forwarded to the Constitutional Court, sources at the
government said.
Parliament okayed the instigation of proceedings leading to the
Constitutional Court assessment of the Bobetko indictment in
conclusions adopted unanimously following a debate on the
indictment on Sept. 27.
There were no more details about today's session. It was only said
that the meeting was brief.
Deputy Prime Minister Goran Granic said in parliament on Sept. 27
the government considered the Bobetko indictment to be contrary to
the Croatian Constitution in its description of the context of the
1993 Medak Pocket operation, the description of the basic criminal
act and the description of the crime's character.
The indictment describes that operation, which was a legitimate
answer to terrorism, as "Croatia's attack on the Republic of Serb
Krajina and civilians," Granic said.
