The party welcomes the government's decision not to hand over
General Janko Bobetko to the Hague tribunal, but insists that the
Constitutional law on cooperation with the tribunal be changed, it
was said at the session, which was held in Vukovar.
According to the declaration on Vukovar, it is necessary to
intensify investigations into war crimes committed in Vukovar
during the Serb aggression, as well as investigations into missing
persons cases. The government has been urged to solve the open issue
of the border with Yugoslavia and see that the Danube islet near
Vukovar is returned to the town, as well as intensify
reconstruction and de-mining activities, especially on farmland.
The first session of the National Committee to be held outside
Zagreb was held in Vukovar to acknowledge the work of the party's
branch in Vukovar-Srijem County and Vukovar, party leader Ivo
Sanader said.
Another reason for holding the session in Vukovar was "protest
against the government, which held a session in Vukovar claiming it
will solve the town's problems, but once Racan and his ministers
were taken pictures of, silence and oblivion followed," Sanader
said.
The party body today also decided to dissolve party branches in
Split-Dalmatia and Sibenik-Knin counties due to their inactivity
and behaviour which was described as contrary to the party's
programme and statute. Commissions were appointed to prepare new
electoral assemblies in the two counties.
