The gathered lit candles and said prayer for those killed in the war
and read the names of 1,337 identified war victims.
"Apel" president Zdenka Farkas urged Croatian state institutions
to immediately request that the UN Security Council change the
statute of the war crimes tribunal in The Hague. The tribunal,
Farkas believes, should have only one obligation, which is to
prosecute those who are responsible for the war in the former
Yugoslavia - Slobodan Milosevic, the former army - JNA, and Serb
paramilitary units.
The conduct of participants in a liberation war is the
responsibility of the country which is defending itself, and the
international community can point to possible omissions, but
soldiers defending their country can and should answer only to
their country, she said.
Farkas reminded that 1,348 persons were still considered
imprisoned or missing, and called on Croatian citizens to light
candles at their windows tonight in tribute to all Homeland War
victims.
