The Commission decided to extend the highway by another 12
kilometres between Dugopolje and Prgomet in an effort to relieve
traffic in Split. A report on works along the entire highway was
also discussed and it was estimated that the work was being
conducted in line with the planned schedule.
The premier also advised journalists that the government would
participate in constructing a commercial zone along the entire
Zagreb-Split Highway regardless of whether this will be used for
industry, free trade or warehousing. The government is prepared to
ensure up to 1.36 million euros for each individual zone, Racan
said. "All this relates to a government decision to promote
development and employment because we want all supporting
complexes along the highway to be in line with European standards,"
Racan said.
Commenting on a reporter's question, the Public Works,
Reconstruction and Construction Minister, Radimir Cacic, said the
situation relating to General Janko Bobetko would not affect the
credit rating of the country and that he was deeply convinced there
was no impending danger of this, if, as he said, everything remains
on the level of a legal battle and is not taken into the streets.
