Long term changes are part of the process whose aim is to ensure that
Croatian schooling follow trends in Western education systems,
Strugar told a press conference.
With regard to demands by the Joint Council of Municipalities for
Serb children to be taught in the Serbian language and the re-
registration of schools, Minister Strugar said this related to
schools in Osijek-Baranja County, such as the school in Bijelo Brdo
and Jagodnjak where the children are all of the Serb origin and that
talks will be held at the local level.
Strugar is convinced that the school year could be organised well
and that social partners will be able to resolve this problem.
He warned that Croatia has fewer children which means that it would
be worthwhile to think about a new school network.
