ZAGREB, Aug 28 (Hina) - Apart from a small circle of rich people,
nobody in our society can ignore the latest government decisions on
the increase in the prices of energy products, reads the latest
issue of the Catholic weekly "Glas Koncila". #L#
In an editorial headlined "Who Protects the Interests of Croatian
Citizens?" the weekly notes that the decision would affect the
poorest families the most.
"It is unusual, to say the least, that those who are responsible for
this society and state are protecting the interests of rich
monopolistic companies, which will soon become more or less foreign
property, more than they are protecting the interests of citizens
and destitute families," warns the weekly.
"Can our authorities accept just like that the fact that as many as
30,000 families live without electricity because they cannot pay
for it," reads the commentary and continues, "Is it really in the
interest of Croatian citizens for monopolistic power companies to
be bought by multinational companies for which nothing is sacred
except profit, and which will never take into account the real
purchasing power of most Croatian citizens?".
