SPLIT, Aug 26 (Hina) - The Croatian Alliance of Unions (HUS) is requesting the prosecution of the former management board of the "Brodosplit" shipbuilding company, HUS vice-president Ozren Matijasevic and HUS Presidency member Zvonko Segvic said on Monday. #L# HUS leaders said that the difficult situation in which Brodosplit has found itself is for the biggest part the fault of the former management which was recently dismissed. They added that the government was also responsible for the situation in the company because it had done nothing despite frequent union warnings that the company was going to bankrupt and that something was wrong with the work of the then management. Matijasevic and Segvic said they requested the prosecution of the former management, which, they believe, the Supervisory Board should do. If this is not done, HUS will request the initiation of proceedings not only against the former management, but also against the Supervisory Board. Segvic told reporters that although police had been to see the situation in Brodosplit, they were "hiding evidence and interrupted their investigation so as not to come to the conclusion senior officials are involved". Asked who of the senior officials he was thinking of, Segvic said the former economy minister, Goranko Fizulic. Commenting on recent statements by Vice-Premier Slavko Linic that salaries in the shipbuilding industry were above the average salary in Croatia, the unionists stressed the average salary in Brodosplit was 2,851 kuna, while employees were doing hard and life- threatening work, the proof of which are 84 employees who became ill from asbestosis.
