The 189.2 million kuna (EUR25.6 million) contract was signed by HAC
management board chairman Stanko Kovac and Strabag AG director
Manfred Aschaber in Zagreb on Friday.
Construction on Brinje tunnel should wrap up by December 2003 at the
latest. The 1,560 metre tunnel is located on the Jezerane-Zuta
Lokva section of the Zagreb-Split motorway.
The tunnel should be opened for traffic at the end of June 2004, said
Kovac.
He stated that construction had been contracted for nine of 12
tunnels on the Bosiljevo-Split section of the motorway, at a price
exceeding two billion kuna (EUR270 million).
As for the other three tunnels, contractors have been chosen for
Plasina. A deal will be signed later this month, when contracts for
the other two tunnels (Dubrava and Breznik) will be put out to
tender.
The Zagreb-Split motorway should be completed in 2005, by which
time documentation for the construction of several more important
traffic projects will be prepared as well, said Transport Minister
Roland Zuvanic.
These include the connection of the northern seaport of Rijeka and
Zuta Lokva, a motorway from Split to Dubrovnik, and the completion
of all works on corridor Vc, he said.
The minister also stressed the importance of a four-year plan
envisaging the renovation of state roads which began last year and
whose value exceeds seven billion kuna (EUR945.9 million).
