estimates that a bill on political parties is directed towards
legal equality for all parties but at the same time it does not
stimulate the development of a contemporary party system. #L#
At a round table organised by GONG on Tuesday, the organisation's
director Suzana Jasic said that the bill proposed by the
parliamentary Committee for the Constitution, Rule Book and
Political System was designed by experts from the Croatian Legal
Centre (HPC) and is a worthwhile contribution to the civil society
and development of the national legislature.
GONG's main objections to the bill is over standardisation and over
detailed description of interior party organisational relations,
its complexity and unclear legislative solutions as well as
persevering party equality rather than concentrating on
stimulating development of contemporary parties.
GONG believes that legislature should ensure equal opportunities
to both sexes at elections and party bodies as well as
representation on party listings at elections.
Of the parties invited to attend the round table organised by GONG
only the Liberal Party (LS) and the Democratic Centre (DC) turned
up.
