LJUBLJANA, July 8 (Hina) - The struggle for a law-based country without corruption will be the basis of the presidential platform for 49 year old Barbara Brezigar, a contender for Slovene this autumn. Brezigar is running in the
elections as the citizens' candidate with the support of two opposition parties and a group of intellectuals gathered around the "Nova revija" (New Review) magazine.

"The battle against corruption should be the task of civil society
and the State Ombudsman's Office, and children should be brought up
in this spirit from pre-school age," a former State Prosecutor and
the head of the section for the struggle against organised crime and
at one time justice minister in the Rightist-Centre government
headed by Andrej Bajuk, said at a press conference on Monday.
The candidacy by Barbara Brezigar was welcomed by Bajuk's Christian
Democrats and the Social Democrats headed by Janez Jansa. Political
analysts however, have prognosed little chance of her making it
into the second round of the election, particularly since Prime
Minister Janez Drnovsek announced his intention to run in the
election, as did a former central bank governor France Arhar.
