Representatives from 54 member countries of ECOSOC will take part
in the work of the session that will continue until Wednesday.
Amongst the delegations is Croatia's delegation headed by Deputy
Prime Minister Zeljka Antunovic.
Opening the session, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan and the
chairman of ECOSOC, Croatia's Ambassador to the UN, Ivan Simonovic
presented high demands before the participants of the gathering.
They expect that a final document will express determination and
readiness by member countries and the entire international
community to combat poverty and respond to the challenges of
globalisation and to strengthen co-operation and co-ordination
between various bodies, agencies and funds within the UN.
