The president of the Jewish community, Darko Fischer, told a news
conference that, apart from the main theme of presenting the Jewish
calendar, the community would mark the 60th anniversary of the
suffering of Osijek Jews in World War II by showing a film on the
events.
The ceremony will also consist of an exhibition of photographs of
Jewish cemeteries in Slavonia and an exhibition of Jewish
calendars, Fischer said. He added that the aim of the ceremony was
to "pull the rich heritage of Jewish communities out from
oblivion".
Fischer said the Osijek Jewish community, with the cooperation of a
Dutch association for working with post-traumatic experiences and
peace, initiated a project of reconstructing Vukovar's synagogue
which had been devastated in 1941.
