ZAGREB, June 5 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic on Wednesday met a delegation of the country's Islamic community, who informed him about the its activities and problems it encountered in its work.

The delegation included the head of the Islamic community, mufti
Sevko Omerbasic, the president of the Islamic Community Assembly,
efendi Fuad Karaga, the head of the Muslim religious school in
Zagreb, Mirsad Srebrenikovic, and a community member Osman Muftic,
the President's Office said in a statement.
The delegation welcomed the upcoming adoption of a law on the status
of religious communities. It also expressed dissatisfaction with
some anti-Islamic statements made by foreign officials during
visits to Croatia, which they said were carried by the media without
adequate public and official reactions, the statement said.
Omerbasic stressed efforts the Islamic community in Croatia was
making to contribute to the development of religious tolerance and
dialogue and to the building of a prosperous Croatia.
President Mesic expressed hope that the Islamic community would
continue with its efforts aimed at promoting the coexistence of all
believers in the country and Croatia's progress.
