The BAC conference on possibilities of investment in Croatia's
economy, which began Zagreb on Tuesday morning, drew Croatian
officials and business people as well as about 80 potential
investors from 17 countries.
The purpose of this event, organised by the Croatian Chamber of
Commerce, the employers' association, foreign ministry and the
leading national pharmaceutical company, 'Pliva', is to arouse the
interest of potential business partners in investment into crucial
economic sectors in the country.
Croatia has made substantial progress in its bids to enter the
European Union in recent years, said BAC Chairman Manfred
Nussbaumer. He expressed hope that Zagreb's approaching to the
European bloc would strengthen the economic situation in Croatia.
It is most important to improve the atmosphere for investment in the
country, Nussbaumer said.
Croatia's Deputy Prime Minister Goran Granic said the government
set openness, competition and stability as its three goals, and
added that a series of difficult reforms should be carried out as to
accomplish the said objectives.
Zagreb is developing and would like to develop relations with its
neighbours, and is happy to see the success of those countries in
the development of democracy as a guarantee for the stability of
Croatia, the government official said.
He confirmed that the government would like to reform the entire
public administration as to remove bureaucratic obstacles for
potential investors.
Stability Pact Chief Co-ordinator Erhard Busek reiterated that the
stability of south-eastern Europe was important for the economic
prosperity and arrival of foreign investors in the region.
Busek said the Pact's main goal was to help those countries to
achieve such aims and draw closer to Europe.
Croatia's European Integration Minister Neven Mimica also
addressed the plenary session and pointed out the importance of the
political stability of the region.
