"We had been claiming for several years that the remains were in
Yugoslavia and now we know that it is true," the head of the Croatian
government's Office for Missing and Detained Persons, Ivan Grujic,
said after a meeting with the head of the Yugoslav Commission for
Humanitarian Issues and Missing Persons, Maksim Korac, in Belgrade
yesterday.
According to Grujic, 85 bodies were buried in Novi Sad, 103 in
Sremska Mitrovica, and 60 in Belgrade. The hand-over of the 85
bodies from Novi Sad should be completed in June, to be followed by
the transfer of remains from Sremska Mitrovica, Belgrade and other
towns.
The transfer of all bodies will be completed by year's end and the
exhumations will be attended by Croatian experts, Grujic said.
The latest talks focused on the issue of graves containing the
bodies of the victims of mass executions in which the Yugoslav
People's Army (JNA) participated.
"This issue was entered into the official protocol and is yet to be
discussed," Grujic said.
