Principal Andre Mohorovicic said the Croatian Music Institute was
the oldest music institution in Croatia which shaped the music
scene of Zagreb and Croatia in the educational, professional and
concert segments.
The Institute held its first concert on 18 April 1827.
The University of Zagreb Music Academy was established within the
Institute in 1920.
Among the patrons of the Croatian Music Institute were eminent
culture and public figures like Juraj Karl Wisner von Morgenstern,
Vatroslav Lisinski, Ivan Zajec, and one-time Zagreb Archbishop
Juraj Haulik. The great composer Franz Liszt was a honorary
member.
