DJAKOVO, April 13 (Hina) - The Presidency of the Democratic Centre
(DC) party held a session focusing on agriculture in Djakovo on
Saturday.
DC president Mate Granic criticised the government for not having a
clear development strategy or vision, so it is not trusted by unions
or the public. #L#
Granic said the government was starting agricultural reform after
two years it has been in power. Even so, it is still not oriented
towards what the world is accepting, since nobody has sufficient
funds to finance such an agriculture which cannot be competitive,
and will continue causing tension between farmers and the state,
Granic said.
The state must set a long-term lower frontier of family agriculture
which it will stimulate and solve issues of agricultural land.
These are three key issues in agricultural reform, and the
government has so far done nothing, but rather bought peace, he
said.
Assessing that the situation in agriculture had never been as
difficult, DC vice-president Vesna Skare Ozbolt said that a loan
fund was necessary in Slavonia, after the bankruptcy of so many
banks, to help with the development and consolidation of family-run
farms and businesses.
Speaking about the political situation in the state, Granic said
that the only thing keeping the ruling coalition together was fear
of early elections, which would certainly happen before its mandate
was up, he said.
