BOROVO TO ERECT MONUMENT TO 12 POLICE KILLED IN SERB AMBUSH

BOROVO, April 8 (Hina) - A monument will be placed in downtown Borovo, eastern Croatia, in memory of 12 policemen from Vinkovci killed there in an ambush by Serb paramilitaries on 2 May 1991. #L# A decision to the effect was made by the Borovo Municipal Council late last week following a dispute between war veterans' associations and local authorities, headed by the Independent Democratic Serb Party. The monument will be placed in the central town park near a monument to the victims of the World War Two National Liberation Struggle. This decision was the result of compromise. (hina) ha sb
