The announcement that Tanovic would be arriving in Sarajevo after
he had, seven days ago, received the Oscar, has caused euphoric
reactions by the residents of his home town, and the city government
greeted him with almost a statesman protocol and billboards placed
on almost all city streets which wrote "Well Done Danis".
The federal television covered his arrival and greeting live. Even
Republika Srpska's television covered his arrival for the first few
minutes. This television was not happy with Tanovic's success when
he received the award.
"I hope I belong to the generation which will restore hope to this
country," Tanovic said. He added that his Oscar was the first, but
not the last in Bosnia.
Tanovic will on Saturday be given a Sixth of April award, the
highest award given by the city assembly, and the Bosnian post will
be issuing stamps with his image.
