Annual interest rates range from 0.5 and five percent and the
repayment period from five to 15 years, with a grace period of one to
two years. The three-year programme is expected to open 30,000 new
jobs and yield EUR1.5 billion in new influx.
The programme, called "Inducement for Success in Tourism", is
expected to become operational in the next two months. Plans
include providing around 150,000 new, high quality beds, and
upgrading around 300,000 beds registered in the private sector. The
aim is also to encourage the entire Croatian economy, especially
production, to participate in tourism.
One part of the programme focuses on the encouragement of self-
employment in tourism. The government is willing to give a EUR5,000
incentive to all who have turned 50 and are willing to hand in their
notice of dismissal and start a private tourism venture.
It is estimated the government will have to secure around 700
million kuna (EUR94.6 million) to subsidise the programme, which
will be implemented through business banks and the Croatian Bank
for Reconstruction and Development.
