KLISA AIRPORT KLISA, March 18 (Hina) - For the first time in 11 years a passenger airplane departed from the eastern Croatian airport of Klisa. It carried 19 passengers to the southern Croatian city of Split. Osijek's Kilsa airport
was built in 1980 and was one of the most up-to-date in the region. It had both landing and maintenance facilities. In 1991 the airport was occupied and severely damaged. Before the occupation, Klisa airport transported over 150,000 passengers and more than 20,000 tonnes of cargo. The former Yugoslav army occupied the airport in 1991. U.N. forces took over its control in 1992 and used it as a logistic base. So far, the Croatian Maritime, Transportation and Communications Ministry has invested 32 million kuna (EUR4.3 million) in the reconstruction of Klisa airport.(hina) it sb
