ZADAR, March 11 (Hina) - The retrial of Zorana Banic, 50, opened at the Zadar county court on Monday. A Serb from Zemunik Gornji near Zadar, Banic is accused of taking part in war crimes on November 18, 1991,in Skabrnja, where 43
civilians were killed. In 1998 Banic was tried in absentia, together with 17 paratroopers and soldiers of the former Yugoslav army. She was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Banic, who lived in Tivat, Montenegro, at the time of her first trial, was arrested last year in Zurich on an international arrest warrant. Swiss authorities handed her over to Croatia. After being put in custody, Banic asked for a retrial, which is her legal right.(hina) np
