ZAGREB, March 5 (Hina) - European Commission Ambassador to Croatia Jacques Wunenburger on Thursday handed grant awards to 27 Croatian non-governmental organisations as support for their efforts in the promotion of democracy and human
rights. The EC has earmarked EUR968,000 for this purpose, and individual projects will be receiving 10,000 to 50,000 euros. "The European Union recognises the importance of the contributions made by the Croatian non-governmental organisations to the strengthening of civil society and to the development of a democracy that upholds political, economic and social rights," the statement issued by the European Commission read. "It values both the expertise, which many organisations working to implement human rights possess, as well as their visibly high impact in the field of human rights."(hina) lml sb
