ZAGREB, Feb 23 (Hina) - "The way out of difficult economic situation
is in an urgent delivery of a strategy for economic development,
based on a new, development concept of economic policy", the
Democratic Centre's (DC) central committee's economic forum
concluded on Saturday.
Participating in the forum were DC members and independent economic
experts.
The DC president, Mate Granic, said there were more than 411,000
unemployed and the foreign debt amounted to over US$12 billion, and
that not many were satisfied with entrepreneurial climate.
Instead of the government, parlaiment and political parties
concentrating, with help of leading scientists, on heated issues in
the society such as unemployment, economic growth and similar, the
political scene is dominated by instability of the ruling
coalition, conflict in parties, problems with neighbours and
numerous affairs, he added.
Experts who took part in the discussion placed harsh criticisms
upon the government's economic policy, particularly Premier
Racan's announcement on economic growth of seven percent which,
according to their opinion, is hardly feasible.
Economist Guste Santini said such way of leading policies saw no way
out of crisis. He warned about the sale of Croatian state and
departure of young and educated people abroad.
The central committee adopted conclusions demanding a shift in
economic policy and the gathering of all potentials and creation of
a new economic policy for the third Croatia.
