The best Croatian skier, who won a gold in the women's combined and a
silver in Super G, yesterday added to her collection another gold in
the slalom, the discipline at which she is the best. Already after
her first race in Deer Valley, Janica proved to a venue audience of
11,000 and millions of TV viewers that she was not the current
holder of the World Cup and the world's best slalom skier by
accident.
Kostelic has been receiving thousands of messages of
congratulation, from the highest state officials to ordinary
citizens.
Along with President Stjepan Mesic, Prime Minister Ivica Racan,
Parliament Deputy Speaker Mato Arlovic, and Zagreb Mayor Milan
Bandic, she has received messages of congratulation from numerous
party leaders and various associations. Congratulatory messages
have also been sent to the Croatian Olympic Committee (HOO), the
Croatian mission at Salt Lake City, and young skiers Nika Fleiss and
Ana Jelusic.
All congratulators are confident the three medals are not the last
Croatia will snatch at the 19th Winter Olympics.
Young skiers Nika Fleiss and Ana Jelusic also had a successful day
yesterday. The 17-year-old Fleiss was 12th and the 15-year-old
Jelusic, the youngest competitor in alpine skiing, came 23rd in
yesterday's slalom.
