SARAJEVO, Feb 13 (Hina) - Bosnian authorities are currently looking
for seven naturalised citizens, originally from Egypt, presumed to
be connected with terrorism, Sarajevo daily "Oslobodjenje" said in
its Thursday's issue.
The paper ran an information which was the previous day marked as
highly classified and sent to members of the House of
Representatives so they could receive explanation for the conduct
of the Bosnian Council of Ministers in the case of six Algerians who
were given up to US authorities, also under suspicion of being
connected with Islamic terrorist organisations.
The Council of Ministers document says that the government in Cairo
had informed Sarajevo about the existence of nine Egyptians
involved with terrorism.
Seven of the group have been identified, but are currently
unavailable to Bosnian police.
As part of measures which are being undertaken in the fight against
terrorism in this country, 38 people have so far been arrested. Out
of the number, 14 left Bosnia: five from Portorico, three from Egypt
and six Algerians.
The Bosnian Council of Ministers confirmed that the work and
transactions of eight companies whose owners were of Afro-Asian
descent, were under surveillance.
It has been established they have accounts in five local banks which
are also being checked.
The Council holds the extradition of the Algerians completely
legal, while Oslobodjenje's source says that the telephone
conversation of one of the Algerians, Bensayag Balkacem, with one
of Bin Laden's close associates, was the crucial element which
decided that they be extradited to the Americans.
A senior official of the Algerian secret service last year spoke
about the six Algerians with the Bosnian authorities. He was
informed that in Bosnia there were still 60 persons of Algerian
origin.
Inquiries carried out by the federal Interior Ministry and the
secret service established that a total of 74 Algerians had
received Bosnian citizenship illegally. Because of this, 94 people
of Afro-Asian origin were taken away passports.
According to the data collected by the secret service, 741 people
from Africa or Asia received Bosnian citizenship illegally.
