ZAGREB, Jan 23 (Hina) - The Croatian government will on Thursday discuss draft conclusions on the implementation of measures regarding the control of transport of hazardous substances, which are aimed at preventing the smuggling of
oil and oil products. Premier Ivica Racan announced the measures last Friday after strong reactions by Slovenia and Bosnia-Herzegovina to Croatia's changing its regulations on the transport of hazardous substances. ZAGREB, Jan 23 (Hina) - The Croatian government will on Thursday
discuss draft conclusions on the implementation of measures
regarding the control of transport of hazardous substances, which
are aimed at preventing the smuggling of oil and oil products.
Premier Ivica Racan announced the measures last Friday after strong
reactions by Slovenia and Bosnia-Herzegovina to Croatia's changing
its regulations on the transport of hazardous substances. The
changes, which came into force January 16, ban the transit of oil
cisterns through Croatia.
Responding to the reactions, Premier Racan announced on January 18
that the decree would not be applied and that it would be replaced by
a set of measures aimed at preventing the smuggling of oil and oil
products. The measures were prepared by a government inter-
department group and the governments of neighbouring countries
have been informed about them.
Although the measures will be announced at tomorrow's government
session, the media speculate that they will determine corridors for
the transit of oil and oil products by road through Croatia. It is
likely that the government will be suggested to decrease the number
of border crossings for oil cisterns.
