VUKOVAR-SRIJEM COUNTY BY 2002 VUKOVAR, Jan 22 (Hina) - According to the regional office for displaced persons and refugees in Vukovar, of 51,702 displaced persons from Vukovar-Srijem County in 1991, 32,890 or 63.6 percent returned to
their homes by the beginning of 2002. The head of the office, Ante Drmic, said of the remaining 18,812 returnees, 13,000 have the real returnee status. Of 13,000 people, 8,000 are from Vukovar. Approximately 5,000 returnees have lost the status for different reasons, one of them being a permanent stay in places of temporary exile. By 2002, 9,918 displaced persons, or 44.9 percent, from Vukovar returned to their homes. The smallest number of people returned to municipalities predominately populated by Serbs. A total of 3,840 refugees from Bosnia-Herzegovina have been provided with temporary accommodation in Vukovar-Srijem County.(hina) np
