Foreign Minister Tonino Picula confirmed the ban had elicited negative reactions among neighbouring countries. Commenting on claims by Damir Kajin of the Istrian Democratic Assembly to the effect that citizens would suffer the most as a result of the ban and that relations with Slovenia would escalate further, Picula voiced hope the consequences would not be such. Slovenia yesterday forwarded a protest note, stating the measure was contrary to adopted and binding international agreements and the principles of good neighbourly relations. (hina) ha
